The CAVAL Risk Management Group comprises representatives from CAVAL member libraries and may include additional nominated members. This Group was formerly known as the CAVAL Disaster Management Group.

Formed in 1986, the CAVAL Risk Management Group's area of concern is in raising awareness of the need to plan ahead in order to better cope with a disaster in the library and lending assistance in recovery from disasters.

The Group's main objectives are

  • to create a forum for information exchange between member libraries.
  • to establish and maintain disaster response plan procedures.
  • to help institutions set up their own risk management/disaster response plan.
  • to support Risk Management Training.
  • to encourage libraries to establish risk management practices taking into account their individual preservation needs.
  • to keep member institutions abreast of current developments.
