Lifting the Lid: Information Literacy and Academics – Challenging the Assumptions of Librarians, was held on the 23rd November.

Lifting the Lid: Information Literacy and Academics – Challenging the Assumptions of Librarians

This is a full-day seminar designed for Liaison Librarians and other Information Literacy practitioners in academic institutions. Sheila and Bill will present their research findings on UK academics’ conceptions of pedagogy for information literacy and discuss, and highlight ways in which they think how these findings might challenge librarians’ assumptions about how what academics work think and do, and identify what the key issues whenare in working with academics. They will also discuss “embedding” IL in the curriculum versus “stand alone” approaches and will draw on their research and practice to argue that the situation is not that cut-and-dried. They will elaborate on their idea of disciplinary curricula and lifelong learning curricula for information literacy, within the context of an educational development approach.
