Performance Measures for Reference Services

Making Reference Work

Evaluating Your Reference Service : an ALIA RAISS /CAVAL RIG post ALIA conference workshop held on Friday, 27 October 2000 at the National Convention Centre, Canberra.

Final Report

This report summarises the indicators and measures used by Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Academic Staff at 8 Victorian universities, based on focus-group interviews conducted during 1996 and 1997.

History

The Performance Measures for Reference Services working Party was established on 28th April 1994 to:

  • indentify performance measures and indicators currently used to evaluate reference services in Victorian academic libraries
  • identify from the professional literature performance measures and indicators for evaluating reference servcies in academic libraries
  • actively liaise with CAUL, ALIA and ACLIS to provide input into any complementary or concurrent projects as they arise
  • report findings to the CAVAL Reference Interest Group

The Performance Measures for Reference Services Working Party was discontinued in February 2000. The work of the Working Party has been taken up by a newly established CAUL Working Party. Barbara Paton represents CAVAL on that Working Party.

Past activities

CRIG/ALIA Pre-Conference Seminar on Performance Indicators for Academic Libraries held in Melbourne on 6th October 1996. This was a joint UCRLS/CRIG Working Party on Performance Measures workshop.
